Lake Ruth is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Hewson Chen of the New Lines. In 2015, Lake Ruth was formed and drummer Matt Schulz (Holy Fuck, Enon, Savak), and vocalist Allison Bryce (The Eighteenth Day of May, The Silver Abduction) joined the original lineup. The band’s expanded live lineup includes René Dennis (The New Lines), James Canty (The Make-up, Ted Leo & The Pharmacists), and David Mason (Listening Center).
Much of Lake Ruth’s music is inspired by signature 1960’s sonic experimentation, as well as incorporating elements of baroque psychedelia and a vintage pop/dream-pop flair. Lake Ruth creates intriguing, unique music that is rich with experimentation and multi-instrumental layers.
On the opening track “Extended Leave,” the trio creates a dream-pop/indie-pop masterpiece filled with classic guitars, bass, and synths that give the track more sparkle. The track opens with buzzing synths and rhythmic drums and then breaks into Bryce’s delicate, tender vocals.
The 2-song 7” set is being released November 22 for Slumberland Records‘ 30th Anniversary Singles Club. You can sign up for the Slumberland SLR30 series here.
