The Arizona-based indie-rock duo, The Bergamot, unveils their new single and video, “Burns,” out now. The song is their first release in two years and was co-produced and mixed by their friend and colleague, Matt Wiggins.
The duo spent much of 2020 hunkered down in their home state amidst the pandemic, missing out on touring in 2020 and 2021. “Burns” reflects on the struggles that were faced collectively, including losing loved ones and missing out on opportunities.
“As we reflect on what the future holds, we are uncertain what will resume or be replaced. It’s a time of great opportunity and hope, but also of tremendous uncertainty,” says the Bergamot‘s Nathaniel Hoff. “We’ve seen great tragedy through these times, but great moments of beauty as well. We hope the video really captures the desolation but optimism that we all have for the time ahead.”
The Bergamot is the husband and wife duo of Nathaniel Hoff and Jillian Speece. They formed the band when they were in college at Indiana University and Purdue University Fort Wayne. They have won multiple awards, including the 2012 Bud Light Battle of the Bands and Project: Aloft Star Competition in 2017.
The duo has performed in all 50 states of the United States and has opened for acts such as All American Rejects, Young The Giant, and Wiz Khalifa.
Despite a few tough years, the duo is hopeful for a return to touring and a new album for 2022.
“We held off on releasing a full album in 2021 due to the inability to tour and support such a release, with all the shifting sands of the late stages of COVID. So we are taking the leap that 2022 will be the year of music’s full and glorious return!” Speece said.
