If you haven’t already heard of Greensgrow Farms it’s definitely time you have. Their motto “growers of food flowers and neighborhoods” is a beautiful description of what this organization is all about.
Greensgrow, located at 2501 E. Cumberland Street, is a nationally recognized leader in urban farming and is open to the public year round. They focus on encouraging sustainability and nutrition in urban communities.
Take a look at all of the events and workshops they offer from how to graft tomatoes, raise backyard chickens, grow mushrooms, and more. They also offer tours where you can meet some of their animals, such as Milkshake the pig. It is a great location to rent and hold a special event.
Their farm stand takes place twice a week and focuses on fresh, local, and delicious food. Along with organic fruits and veggies they offer dairy products, eggs, a line of their very own prepared foods, meat-free proteins, and humanely and sustainably raised meats.
This Saturday is opening day in the nursery from 10-4pm so get ready for spring with seeds, soils, starting gear, and more. Check out their diverse collection of seeds and this Saturday they will be 10% off. Saturday is also Volunteer Day for the farm and is already full. If interested, take a look at their next Volunteer Day scheduled for Earth Day on April 22.
Greensgrow Farms will also be celebrating the opening of their new location April 5th in West Philadelphia! It will be located at at 4912 Baltimore Avenue and will feature a fully stocked garden center, a small farmer’s market, outdoor workshop and classroom space, and will serve as a pickup location for the CSA.
