From technological issues with various internet providers to fighting with an unchangeable “shuffle play” setting on an unnamed music app that felt I’d like to listen to everyone BUT Girlpool, this week’s album has been a challenge to review.
Strong female vocals and strong, sometimes shocking, lyrics dominate Girlpool. With the focus elsewhere, it is almost easy to miss just how smooth and polished the instrumentation on the album is. The vocals have a youthful sound that might cause some to dismiss Girlpool as a “girl band.” Nothing could be further from the truth. The quality of the guitars on the album is superbly professional and the entire album qualifies as a notable listening experience.
One song and only one listen to Girlpool is not enough. You’ll find yourself hitting repeat for the third time before you know it.
