Gin Wigmore brings us sounds of rock ‘n’ roll and blues with a heavy dusting of a bad-girl attitude behind a voice that would make you shake in your boots. After spending time in Clarksdale, Mississippi writing for her 2011 debut album Gravel & Wine, Wigmore headed beach-side to beautiful Santa Monica to spend that summer recording.
It wasn’t long after that Wigmore’s music spread like wild fire. On January 23rd, 2013 Gin will be appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “I have a tip-top team working around me and we all seem to make really great thing happen together,” says Wigmore. After a few gigs in the states for the US Club Tour Winter 2013, Wigmore will be heading to the United Kingdom and Europe to continue touring. You can also catch her on the cover of the latest Inked Magazine.
January 27th at the World Cafe Live will be Wigmore’s first time playing in Philadelphia. “This will actually be my second time in Philadelphia. I went there many moons ago for about two hours, so I guess you could say I had time for a Philly cheese steak and nothing else,” she says. Wigmore, of course, is looking forward to be playing a show here this time. “I’m not really sure what to expect in Philadelphia with the crowd, but I‘m thinking they will be ready for a pretty rowdy sort of night…hopefully!”
If I know Philadelphia like I think I do, Wigmore will be nothing less than a hit in this city.
Gin Wigmore’s music shows us sides of both rock and blues, however she didn’t always have a blues side to her, prior to being in Mississippi. “That was really cool for me to discover something completely alien that I got very much into,” says Wigmore. “As for the rock, I think I’ve always been into rock n roll, with it’s loud drums and general mayhem.”
Wigmore then goes on to explain her song “Saturday Smile”. “I wrote that song for someone pretty special to me and I like the definitiveness of knowing a particular person is your everything, but then also being so unsure at the same time whether it is just love, lust or everything else that goes with it. A question you probably keep on asking yourself when trying to stay in a long relationship these days.”
Wigmore’s music is a type of music that anyone out there can relate to. It is easy listening and good music for any situation or environment you find yourself in. She is comparable to music by Jack White, The Alabama Shakes, and Macy Gray. Every person that I have played Wigmore’s music for had only positive things to say.
