The longest day of the year brought many bands, fans, and comic book enthusiast into the city thanks to Make Music Philly and the Philadelphia Comic Con. Venues around the city were packed for the night, but the place to be was on 12th and Callowhill at The Underground Arts’ Black Box.
The Black Box always seem to have a different set up and vibe every time I go. Saturday The Roddenberries, Galvanize, and members of the Peek-A-Boo Revue gave the theater a unique flare and aura. The Roddenberries complete with Star Trek costumes, props, and references put on quite the show. The audience was involved and loving their eclectic delivery.
Galvanize, a two piece band representing Philadelphia, was the show’s closer. Vocalist and guitarist Peter Milos (also of the organization Get Lucid!) and drummer Scott Frassetto got right down to business when they stepped on the stage. Audience members, those both familiar with their music and new fans, commented on the great sound quality, energy, and passion Galvanize emitted. You wouldn’t have thought it was a two man band if you hadn’t seen them. All sounds and instruments blended together seamlessly with CD quality precision. Their genre cannot be placed into a box and Galvanize doesn’t claim to fit exclusively into one, but what you can expect from them is thought provoking rock that you can dance to, sing along with, or simply nod your head as you enjoy their talent.
The band played music from their first full length album, released April 2nd, 2014, titled Gold Rush Ritual. The 10 track album has something for everyone. Songs like “Tension” and “The John That Doesn’t Pay” are two tracks that exemplify Galvanize’s versatility.
They will be on tour in July and their first stop will be back at the Underground Arts July 10th along with Toxic Moxie, Barakka, and Spectral Lines. Proceeds will benefit Move Mountains Youth and Arts Festival. For more information about Galvanize and where to get their album check out their website and their bandcamp.
Also, make sure you keep your eye out for That Music Mag’s August print issue where you will learn about what Get Lucid! is, what they stand for, and what the future holds for the group that’s all about the community and social justice.
