Listening to Is Exotic Bait, the new album by French Style Furs, is invigorating. The majority of the album features peppy, high energy music and vocals that completely mask the sobriety of the lyrics. This disconnect in moods pulls the listener in and fully captures their interest throughout the album. In a few places, the vocals and instrumentation do overwhelm each other and it is unclear if this is a style choice or merely moments of extreme passion.
French Style Furs uses the ten songs on Is Exotic Bait to show off the versatility that they are capable of while maintaining their level of energy and unique sound. This is no questioning the identity of this group once the listener hears a few of their songs. It will be very interesting to see how French Style Furs continues to develop and evolve their sound in the future. Overall, Is Exotic Bait is listenable with a few songs that approach the bad ass level.
