The month of October has approached us and we are all too familiar with the “Oktoberfest” craze that comes along with it. Yes Philadelphia, it is time for crisp weather and all the fantastic seasonal craft beers that make us feel warm inside.
This Sunday, October 5th Philadelphia, will be holding the second annual Roxtoberfest. This is an outdoor festival which takes place on Ridge Ave that will consist of a showcase stage featuring an array of bands, a large variety of beers, food trucks, local vendors and other festivities like face painting and dunk tanks.
The event will be held from 12-6pm and festival goers will be permitted to carry their beverages in the street during this time. Be sure to come with an empty stomach and fresh palate to be able to enjoy some of the area’s best tasting grub and craft beer specials. The Foodery, as always, will have over 1,000 different beers available in their store across from the showcase stage.
The selections of beers that will be featured are Shock Top Pumpkin, Star Hill Brewery IPA, Beck’s Oktoberfest and Johnny Appleseed Cider. There will also be limited edition Roxtoberfest beer steins available, but be sure to get there early if that’s what you’re into- those will not be lasting too far into the day.
As for the music- come see performances by Ginger Coyle, Kwesi K, Jeff Shelby of the Quixote Project, Brooke Dicaro, Laura Cheadle, Orion Freeman and Tymm Holland. Listen to the various genres of music as you munch on food from all the local restaurants or food trucks like Poi Dog, The Tot Cart, Little Baby’s Ice Cream and Mucho Bueno Taco Truck.
With all the fun festivities that will be going on, Roxtoberfest is a surefire way to break into fall and just enjoy locally acclaimed bands, great beer and delicious food. This event is also accessible by public transportation and parking will be available. So whether you’re in the area or a little out of town, there will be a way to be involved with the good times & merry-making in the Northwest section of Philadelphia.
