We Are The Mess (Deluxe Edition)

Eskimo Callboy is the kind of name that’ll leave one very, very surprised. But when you hit play on that first track, “Cstrp”, you know they mean business and are here to rip your face off. It’s an odd (but works bloody well) fusion of electro and metalcore with enough melodic vocals to leave you more than enough to sing along to. Their lyrics leave something to be desired, not quite Steel Panther but they fall somewhere between Steel Panther and Motley Crue; let’s party ’til we drop (and until we don’t remember!) and then have wild drunken sex.
Yeah, we’ve done this before with almost every other rock band that’s come before that has nothing better to sing about.
Granted, they have a lot of attitude, a knack for production, killer screams and a neat little bow on all that dupstep. Combined, it makes the title track “We Are the Mess” a fun listen. As the album gets on they seem to get heavier, more pissed off, and they’re clearly having a lot of fun.
As with all albums it has its ups and its downs. When it comes down, it really comes down. You fall into a track after track rhythm of screams and dubstep and partying. It’s certainly fun while it lasts, but it lacks any of the texture that makes you want to see it through.
Nonetheless, throw a party, put it on and break some shit.
