For a band name that alludes to the Greek God of Love, it’s no wonder to find that the team behind it are themselves a married couple. Kate Perdoni and Adam Hawkins harmonize like champs and there is a synchronicity in their sound that few other bands can match. The softly pulsating synths mixed with the driving guitars blend with the wistful whispering vocals nicely. So much so that each song on their new album, Home Address for Civil War, tends to blend seamlessly into the next. Eros always sounds good, but the heartbeat is a little too constant at times, making the album fairly static. Standouts include the modern, electric gospel “Lately (I’ve Been Wondering)” and the hard rockin’ “Terence McKenna.” Home Address is strongest when the solid harmonies aren’t lost in the summer carnival of sound.
Fans of Low, Slowdive, and Yo La Tengo will find plenty to love here. It might benefit Eros to try toning down the production to show off their more organic talents, but as it stands, Home Address for Civil War is still a fine listen.
