We know it’s been a little while since the last edition of drinking tunes but we’ve been a little preoccupied with some of the latest offerings from Victory Brewing Company. Sour beers have taken the spotlight as the go to refreshers this summer and the local brewers are leading this charge. So pucker up and get to know Kirsch Gose and Sour Monkey!
The first of these two, the Kirsch Gose, was introduced back in the beginning of April and has quickly become one of Victory’s hottest brews. The uniquely light, tart Gose is a traditional German style beer that takes it’s name from the salinic Gose river. Victory throws in cherry juice to bring a modern spin on this old world drink. In a short time, Kirsch Gose has become a huge hit and finding it either on draft or in bottles has become a bit of a challenge for some.
The second is a new take on one of Victory’s most sought after creation, the mighty Golden Monkey. Dubbed Sour Monkey, it takes the much beloved Belgian Tripel and alters it’s DNA by incorporating multiple fermentations via three different yeasts. The new beer is a result of a lot of research and development behind the scenes at Victory Brewing Company. Sour Monkey expands the tastes behind Golden Monkey with the playful additions and exemplifies the creative and enthusiastic visions within the brewery.
Look out for both of these new sour ales out in bottle shops, stores and bars now. You will find the Kirsch Gose in the smaller 12oz bottle form and the Sour Monkey in the bigger 750mL bottles. There has been no word yet as to how long either will last so do not take your time getting either. These sour ales pack a much different punch compared to most other beers but after finishing your first glass, you will come to understand and believe in craze that is slowly taking the craft beer world by storm!
Pairs Well With: Shark Week – “Waste Of Time”
Since we are sharing our new favorite summertime beers, we figured we might as well throw in one of our new favorite summertime jams too. “Waste of Time” comes off of the debut, Beach Fuzz, full length album from Washington DC’s very own Shark Week. The group soulfully blends together surf and garage rock together into their own form that is just as unique as Victory’s two new sour ales. The choruses of “oohs” and “aahs” paired with the jangly yet chugging guitar lines breezy, sunny day feelings. These get mashed up with driving drum beats and singer Ryan Mitchell’s soon to be unmistakable howls and growls. Everything comes together in the first intro bite in “Waste Of Time”. Trust us on this one, you will be hooked! (Pun intended)
