DJ Carnage and 3LAU caused pandemonium at the sold out show at Soundgarden Hall on Columbus Blvd.
DJ Carnage calls his fans the members of Chipotle Gang and they repped hard at Soundgarden Hall. The venue boasted a capacity of 1800, packed from wall to wall. The difference between pandemonium and crazy have never been more apparent in the sets performed by Carnage and 3LAU.
Elvis Suarez kicked off the show. I talked a little with a cohort from his side project, EZ Money, which focuses on a more twerk and trap base sound, compared to the more trance set on display at Soundgarden Hall. John G, another opener, also had a more trance sound and a pretty good background projection depicting jets streaming through a techno space.
3LAU hit the stage and the pandemonium commenced, if anyone had happened to fall when the beat dropped, it would have been the last they ever heard and they probably would have died happy. 3LAU’s style of progressive house had members of the crowd singing along as they danced their hearts out. His versatility shines through as he can easily transition from trap house to progressive to back again.
Carnage, on stage, probably has the most charisma I’ve ever seen from a DJ perform live. I can see why members of Chipotle Gang would be so die-hard as to sneak in burritos and throw them on stage, a tribute to EDM’s self-proclaimed “worst nightmare.” At one point in the show Carnage called to the stage for female members of Chipotle Gang to showcase their towering ability, in retrospect as I spied members of the audience and looked at how they were dressed in relation to your typical raver, there were girls there for the express purpose for going on stage when he called. Carnage as a DJ is just as versatile as 3LAU, even turning Soundgarden Hall into a house party with “Bugatti” then transitioning from that back to festival house music.
Carnage gave members of Chipotle Gang exactly what they wanted at the sold out Soundgarden Hall show. There’s a storm coming in EDM. A day of reckoning if you will, Chipotle Gang is taking over lead by their de facto leader DJ Carnage.
