Ixora

The announcement of Copeland’s Ixora means that the collective celebration can, after about six years of baited breath after their last release, commence among their fans. The album was announced on April Fool’s Day, which confused and riled fans. Was it true? Was it a prank? The anticipation may make the final product even better.
Wistful and gorgeous, the new tracks hum and chime with serious emotion, made of frontman Aaron Marsh’s haunting falsetto and smooth lower register blending against the band’s instrumental dreamscape. From heartfelt, simple numbers to sprawling urgencies, Copeland’s sound twists and turns a little bit, making each track unique, but never veers off of the path. Lyrically, the record is touching and meaningful, with soft murmurs, refined raises, and twinkling falsettos delivering matters of the heart in a silk envelope.
Often, when a band takes their time on a record, expectations become high for its quality, and the content is speculated about and predicted. In other words, the lengthier the time between speculation, announcement, and release, the higher the bar. Ixora, long awaited, does not disappoint.
