The contemporary classical artist, Elliott Cole, has released a new EP titled Journals, Vol. 1, released via Long Echo Records, out now.
“I usually make music to get outside myself, to explore, to roam. To discover something I didn’t already have in me. But Journals is a return to the personal – a pencil and a notebook, a private moment, drawing out what’s inside.” – Elliot Cole
Cole requested the help of cellist Gabriel Cabezas and guitarist Jordan Dodson for this EP.
The first track is titled “November 1: Homesick.” It is a beautiful piece that features gorgeous strings, and a classic, gentle guitar. The second track is “November 15: Lovesick.” One can imagine that this piece may be slightly darker and sad, similar to how one feels when they are feeling lovesick.
The third piece on this EP is called “December 4: Papakata.” All five tracks on the EP were written by Cole, Cabezas, and Dodson. Now this track is the most lively of all the songs so far. Energetic strumming on the strings makes this track fun and exciting to listen to.
The last track on the EP, “December 14: Exit Row,” was another lively and exciting track to listen to. The strings were up and down and everywhere and it was intense to listen to the music. The guitars and string instruments were played so well, I was really impressed by the players.
Overall, I usually don’t enjoy classical music, but the musicians on this EP were very naturally talented and made for a great listen.
