Communion Club Nights, a nine-city concert tour featuring some of the hottest up and coming young acts, is coming to Philadelphia at Johnny Brenda’s this Thursday and continues every first Thursday of the month. This first show will feature Rubblebucket , Yacht Club DJs, Willy Mason, Roadkill Ghost Choir, and local acts Prowler and Birdie Busch.
Communion was formed in London in 2006 by Ben Lovett (Mumford and Sons), Kevin Jones (Bear’s Den), and producer Ian Grimble (Beautiful South, Travis, Manic Street Preachers). Ben Lovett, one of the founders, wants Communion to be great platform for artist and a supportive outlet to all acts involved. “We champion musicians who encourage one another, regardless of genre, or level of commercial success,” he says. “This support in turn led to many of our artist inadvertently becoming successful. We hope to continue and build on this reputation.”
Communion Club Nights achieved much notoriety in London’s underground scene and the tour grew from there bringing about growth for the communion brand as well as forging the musical acts that participated into the spotlight like Michael Kiwanuka, Daughter, Gotye, and Ben Howard.
Communion’s North American tour aims to be a welcoming stage for developing, new, and established bands all the while giving audiences great performances of bands to be on the lookout for. Each month there will be a new line up of bands on tour as well as local acts. Aside from Philadelphia, the tour will be at eight other cities.
Many people are anticipating the arrival of Communion and are snatching up tickets. The tickets are a great steal at only $12 in advance and $14 at the door. You must be 21 with over with proper I.D to attend. Check out what people are saying about the upcoming show and I hope to see you there.
