Chuck Prophet: Master of good ol’ American Rock n’ Roll.
You can’t get much more classic (and classy), straight up and down rock n’ roll than Night Surfer does. Chuck Prophet’s laid back vocal drawl over driving percussion, strings and even cowbell makes this one of the best records of the summer by far, even if it is being released on the first day of fall! Each song on this album makes you want to roll down the windows and feel the summer breeze, and with memorable hooks you’ll be singing along by the end of the tune. Prophet can’t go wrong- he even laughs in time in “Tell Me Anything” and makes it sound cool.
The album starts off with a bang with the grungy hit “Countrified Inner City Technical Man.” Simple lyrics and a great straight rock beat will have you stomping around the house playing air cowbell and singing along. Next up is another classic song titled “Wish Me Luck”, with the tell tale lyrics “Look out you losers, here I come- so wish me luck even if you don’t mean it.” Prophet channels his inner Bob Dylan in songs “Ford Econoline” and “Truth Will Out”, telling amazingly intricate, philosophical and intelligent stories leaving you wanting so much more.
Chuck Prophet asks for luck in Night Surfer, but by no stretch of the imagine does he need it. Prophet brings something new and unique with each song, from a string orchestra to a drum solo and a verse about hookers. This is a must listen, plain and simple. Rating this iconic is an understatement. Enjoy!
