On The Dream Baby 2, Chicago-based, Cleveland-bred, C.W. Allen, delivers rhythmic lyricism and hip-hop/R&B beats resulting in an exceptional EP, the second of two in the Dream Baby EP series.
The 5-track EP lyrically touches upon topics that are personal to Allen, often dark and touching experiences. The Midwestern rapper’s latest effort is full hook-laden beats weaving in and out of delicate, thumping bass lines.
The EP opens with the track “Lucid”, a song that touches upon “society’s addiction to attention and the unhealthy ways we pursue it.”
The song “Bad Dreams” is about the experience when Allen found out that his cousin had been murdered. On “Bad Dreams,” gospel-like vocals sing “wake me up from this dream/it’s sounding like a nightmare.” Allen’s lyricism and melodic hip-hop beats, which set him apart from other hip-hop artists in that he’s writing about topics that are important to him. Out of all the tracks on the EP, “Bad Dreams” is probably the most radio-friendly track with sick beats and lyricism.
On the track “Care For You,” Allen raps about God and highlights “the care God has for us even when we’re in our darkest moments of fear and doubt.” While this is mainly a hip-hop EP, Allen is able to incorporate other sounds, genres, and sub-genres, into his music for a truly layered sound.
“Cloud” is the fourth track on the record and also the second single off the EP. The final track “Everything” was written about a new baby that will be born this fall.
If you’re for some meaningful, rhythmic hip-hop beats and lyricism, C.W. Allen is for you. Stay tuned for what he’s working on by keeping up with him on social media.
