Are the Broadheds a band, or a group of guys put together by Peter Walker to help him on his vanity project? After listening to the album, I would say that the cosmos worked it out so that these musicians would find each other and the Broadheds were born. This is one of those records that needed to be made. These tunes have probably been floating around in Peter Walker’s head in some way, shape or form since he was a kid.
The concept for the album is great. He took the popularity of teen fiction and used it to be able to go back in time and write songs from his teenaged persona. The album covers all of the typical situations a dude might encounter in his young life, anger, lust, love found, love lost and questions about the future all with an old school punk rock sound. The Ramones would be proud to hear their influence on this record. There is also a Reggae/Ska sound to the record like in the tune “At Least Now I Have Something”, I loved the vocal performance on this song! Additional stand out tracks are “Nothing That I Care About” and “Was There Really Any Chance.”
This is a great record and if you’re lucky enough to catch the band live on the west coast for the currently two dates they have booked, please let me know how it was!
