10x is the debut full length album by Brooklyn based ‘art-rock’ band Celestial Shore and one can only hope there will not be a follow-up, as I can only be tortured for so long. Released by the Hometapes/Local Singles label and mixed by Greg Saunier of Deerhoof, 10x is like a casserole with too many ingredients. It’s nine tracks all sound very similar with high pitched vocals and instruments that obviously do not play well with others. The second track “Valerie” includes are-you-kidding-me lyrics such as “I got places to go, I got people to see, but you’d never know you think I’m always free, cause you’re always free.”
I wish I liked this album because if anything, the album cover is quite impressive, but the songs are like a square peg in a round hole. I think my co-worker put it best when I asked him to listen to track number nine, “Swimmer’s Sinking Feeling”. After a few minutes sporting a furrowed brow he said “I’m confused.” Yeah. Me, too.
