Revise Your Maps

Perhapst, also known as John Moen, drummer from The Decemberists, released Revise Your Maps, his second solo album. His musical style changes from track to track and he keeps you on your toes, wondering what sound will come next and all the while retaining a sound somewhat like the classic music of the 50s in tempo and tone.
From start to finish, the 13 tracks are filled with beautiful beats and vocals. Each track a little better than the one before it, the sound of his voice lulls you away to a serene place while the guitar and drum keep you rooted in the music. “Revise Your Maps” is a soulful track, a little slower than rest and with powerful lyrics to match. But it was not alone in it’s slightly melancholy nature; “Highlife” and “Lightlow Nightowl” both share in the soulful sound and are tinged with slightly darker sounds coming from the guitar and drums than the rest of the album.
“Queen Mary” and ‘Still (Mt. Zero)” are perhaps the most upbeat and fun tracks on the album. Both having a quicker sound and less of the soulful tinge in the vocals. Both of which seem to ring heavily with sounds akin to Jack Johnson and early John Mayer. Perhaps the most entertaining track though is “Thousand Words”, another of the same type but had lighter themes behind the lyrics.
