Clear My Head With You

Pittsburgh-based indie-punk band Adventures weren’t kidding around when they called their new EP, Clear My Head With You. The raw, wailing vocals and screeching guitar riffs could clear even the stubbornest of sinuses. The bloodcurdling opener, “I Can’t Stay,” pumps you up for a short tilt-a-whirl of a ride through a cacophony of hardcore punk rock.
The second track, “Promise,” offers much of the same, but three times as long. It’s then that you realize you’re on a small town church carnival tilt-a-whirl. It’s super fun, but you get impression that it’s not put together very well and it could crumble apart at any second. And by then, you’re thankful that there isn’t much left to do yet.
The title track, however, is the best ride this parking lot carnival has to offer. It’s a very well constructed Music Express, hurtling you forward with your heart thumping and head banging. Then it stops and reverses direction in just the right spots. “Clear My Head With You” is a wildly successful and wonderfully, and cleverly, chaotic song.
We end with the refreshingly mellow and melancholic “The Light Brings Without.” Adventures has got chops and this closing track proves it.
Clear My Head With You is not an easy listen, but that’s what makes it punk rawk. If they revel in and experiment with disorder even further, Adventures could be one to watch.
