The boys of 3Oh!3 were clever in naming their band after their Colorado zip code, and the cleverness continued to spill over into their fourth album release, Omens. Omens is the first release from Sean Foreman and Nathaniel Motte in three years and it was well worth the wait with it’s upbeat electronic sounds perfectly mingled with pop elements.
3Oh!3 have the perfect blend in their twelve-track new release. The tracks brought the fun sounds of electronic and mixed wonderfully with pop elements, from lyrics to the soulful quality in the vocals. The songs were perfectly fitted to listen to during a commute or dance the night away in a club. Songs like “Eyes Closed” and “You’re Gonna Love this” have all the makings of a top 20 hit with the upbeat drums and guitar riffs and quirky lyrics from a soulful alternative singer. Even when they start out a little calmer like “Back to Life” and “Youngblood”, the tempo and mood picks up as the songs progress.
“Do or Die” and “Black Hole” didn’t quite mesh with this pop dance album as they were darker in lyrics, harsher in tempo and a little displeasing to the ear to hear the booming insults of “Black Hole”. Not bad songs by any means, but disbarring to hear the harsh rap tones in such an otherwise upbeat and entertaining album.
Overall Omens was worth the three-year wait for it’s great and quirky tracks.
