Coming up this Saturday is Radio 104.5’s second Summer Block Party of the year. Featuring Metric, Royal Teeth, and Goodnight Lights, this weekend’s completely free show is not one to miss!
Metric, a Canadian indie rock band, began as a duo and became a four-piece wonder. Two members also play with Broken Social Scene, another notable music project. Their most recent album, Synthetica, was released last summer and won two awards at the 2013 Juno’s. They’re touring the US and Canada this summer, and their only Philly stop is this weekend!
Royal Teeth is a six piece Indie/ Dance/ Pop band from Louisiana, founded in 2010. Their EP Act Naturally is currently available for download, and their debut LP will be out on August 13th. They’re touring the country this June and July and will be hitting a few spots close to Philadelphia, but their only Philly show is on this Saturday.
Goodnight Lights is an Indie-Rock quintet from the Philadelphia area. Being heavily influenced by Pixies, The Beatles, Weezer and Wilco, they produce a unique sound that caters to a variety of audiences. They recently released their third album, As Far As The Moon. You can read more about what they’re up to here in Matt’s interview with them! Check them out at this weekend’s block party, and again with The Quelle Source at Kung Fu Necktie later this month!
While you’re at the Block Party this weekend, grab some free VitaCoco or Vitamin Water and play some games with State Farm, thanks to some of the many sponsors of these events. Show up early and check out the tables that some independent vendors set up. You can grab lunch at one of the many local eateries in Northern Liberties, like PYT or Max’s Brew Bar, or take a trip to the Miller Lite beer garden. Make sure you tag your Instagram pictures and tweets with #1045BlockParty and to share your fun with everyone else!
