Canadian alternative rockers, Rebelle, released their new single, “Kicks,” and the accompanying video today. The single is available on all music platforms and the video can be watched below.
The song was inspired by a conversation that the band overheard while bartending. The bar is the only bar in their small town, so people would come in and discuss life’s ups and downs.
“There were two people I saw meet, one much older than another, who had a one-night stand that led to their lives spiraling out of control. They were having a child, yet wanted nothing to do with each other,” said Rebelle in a press release. “They vented about their situation at the bar and I remember hearing one of them saying they felt like they were being cloned, which felt so clinical.”
The music video shows a woman’s struggle with the ups and downs of life, including the monotony of the routine of a 9-5 job. Like the song, it showcases the need to get back up each morning and face the world.
“This song asks what your personal definition of sanity, loneliness, and happiness are in our current climate. It’s human nature to want to get your rocks off – gotta get your ‘Kicks’ while you still can,” said Rebelle.
Rebelle is made up of Quebec-based brother and sister David Taggart and Rylee Taggart, Ryan Wiles, and Joey Kane. Their sound is described on their Bandcamp as being “Nirvana playing Killers’ tunes with anthemic hooks and alt-rock drenched in emotion.”
The music video for “Kicks” was directed by David Irvine and David Taggart. The song was produced by Anton Delost.
