Helsinski-based pop singer/songwriter, Anni Pohto, shares her brand new single, “Closure,” a raw, confessional track taken from her forthcoming album due in Summer 2021.
Pohto elaborates on the story and production of “Closure”: “The song tells a story about guilt and how you seem to be unable to let go of your past mistakes. It was made this way by recording an old 80s analog keyboard and then chopping it on a computer to make it sound like it’s stuck on an endless loop without ever resolving. On top of that lo-fi, electronic foundation I invited my dear friends from New York and Helsinki to play guitar (Andre Vasconcelos) and Finnish national instrument kantele (Maija Kauhanen). These soft, fragile, acoustic elements bring a hint of rawness to the mix and balance it beautifully.”
Anni Pohto‘s music is built on “old school songwriting, 90s hip hop, and a dash of 21st-century pop music.” Her fresh combination of Nordic esthetics and the love for the East Coast is based in her childhood in Finland and life in New York and Boston.
While she was working as a songwriter for other artists and struggling in the local music industry, she found herself as a Berklee College of Music scholar and Master of Global Political Science to-be.
She released an EP titled Redemption Street and her single, “Stains,” was chosen as Song of The Week at YleX Radio. Her highly-anticipated album will be released later this year.
