The west coast trio, Dirtwire, and west Canadian duo, Moontricks, created a thrilling collaboration bringing their exciting blend of folk, bluegrass, electronic dance music (EDM), and more into the blazing track, “Alone.”
The song itself is about societal consumerism. The track, released by Westwood Recordings, “Alone” is a blazing mix of intense folk/bluegrass banjo riffs and a half-time electronic drop. The organic instrumentation and middle-eastern production, “Alone” is a “song about rejecting societal pressures for consumerism,” explains Moontricks. “About wanting to be left alone from these pressures, and banding together around not feeling the need to chase them. Then we built the heavy pulsing drop around the middle eastern violin lines and bass. The combination ended up working well with its striking contrast.”
Dirtwire‘s sound is the result of their endless touring and travels around the globe performing at events from Ayahuasca ceremonies in Central America, Tokyo’s bluegrass clubs, Femi Kuti‘s Shrine in Lago, to the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s modernized new capital, Astana. The trio plays a wide variety of ancient and modern instruments, including West African kamale ngoni, harmonica, Rickenbacher electric 12string guitars, and more, that are all interwoven into the laptop for beat creation.
Moontricks‘ timeless sound captures the essence of their rough roots. Nathan Gurley and Sean Rodman combine their love for folk, blues, and electronic music, by merging genres that have never been acquainted before while earning listeners along through illustrious career. Their exciting live performances blend a mix of guitar, banjo, keys, and vocals against thrilling original productions. They have performed at major festivals in Canada including Lightning in a Bottle, Rainbow Serpent, and Shambhala Music Festival.
