New York City is a mecca of musical talent and CALVERT isn’t an exception. CALVERT debuts with his brand new debut EP This Beautiful Life, Volume 1, and opens with the song “Please With a Cherry.” This track is a fun song decorated with brassy synths and electronic pop elements that introduces the listener to the artist in a fun, upbeat way. The song’s music video has already earned over 325k views on YouTube.
With acclaimed EDM-artist Jonathan Mendelsohn (of Reckless Wonder Music Publishing) at the helm, CALVERT‘s debut EP was already scheduled to have of best musicians and professionals on board. The album is full orchestrated by Jamey Ray, the creator of the acapella super group, Voctave.
However, the standout song on the 5-song set is “Heartbeat”; the catchy melody offers the promise of a song that’s almost radio-friendly, but not without some adjustments in its arrangements. The song opens with a melody on the keys layered over CALVERT‘s vocals and brassy synths.
The track “Wanna Be” imagines the being on the other of relationship and outside looking in, wanting that one person who you can’t have or who’s in already taken. As CALVERT sings: “I know she’s it, but she isn’t me/when she lies in your eyes/that’s where I wanna be” you can almost hear the pain in his voice as he sings “when a stranger says we look good together/we just laugh/if you only knew how it hurts/because you are my other half.”
The album’s title track, “This Beautiful Life,” currently growing in popularity with its music video on the climb as well. Its positive message (“throw away/these broken dreams/it’s time to turn the page/and if it’s hard to see/we’ll let our love light the way/and if you look up to the sky/it’s like the sun is shining just for us”) and infectious melody and drums bring together such a beautifully-written and arranged song.
CALVERT‘s first recording “Kiss The Air” reached music fans worldwide due to his credits in RENT and Altar Boys. The track has been featured on the reality television show, So You Think You Can Dance. He has also been a backup vocalist for the likes of Mariah Carey, Harry Connick, Jr., Patti Labelle, Shoshana Bean, and Gloria Estefan.
You’ll also hear him as a member of the Grammy-nominated gospel choir, Broadway Inspirational Voices, and was featured in the film, The Greatest Showman, as part of the gospel choir. He also toured the world as a member of the Broadway Boys and whose album debuted in the Top 10 iTunes chart. Keep up with all things CALVERT via social media on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
