Neon Indian is definitely high-brow. Their new EP, a remix of songs from their last album, Era Extraña is entitled Errata Anex, an anagram of Era Extraña. Optimo, Boyd Rice, Pattern, Actress and Twin Shadow (all bands I have never heard of before, so this must be a true indie album) lend their creative juices to blend a new electro beat cocktail for your listening pleasure.
Alan Palomo, a Mexican-born musician whose previous projects include Ghosthustler and VEGA, came up with the idea of a remix album while on the road touring and listening to these artists blaring out of his headphones.
There are only five tracks on this EP and while some are good fun, others are as dull as watching a marathon of the last five Oscar broadcasts back to back. With commercials.
“Halogen”, the second track on this EP, has a spooky vibe, as if a female ghost were whispering unintelligible musings into your ear. This song would be great in Guillermo del Toro’s next film. The third track,”Heart Release” is one long stretch of boring. I realized afterwards that was 6.07 minutes of my life I shall never get back. I loved the final track entitled “Hex Girlfriend” remixed Twin Shadow, the band fronted by George Lewis, Jr. It’s upbeat, danceable and refreshingly cool.
Rolling Stone magazine called Neon Indians one of the hottest new bands of 2010 alongside Mumford and Sons and Grace Potter. Three years later, they are still rocking on.
