Talkin’ Thrash

It’s no surprise that Slayer performed for a sold out sea of metal fans last Sunday. These guys are legendary as pioneers of thrash metal. So, whether you’ve been a dedicated Slayer fan for 32 years, or you’ve never heard an album in your life, experiencing these dudes play a live show has got to be a must-see performance for anyone who appreciates talented musicians.

Like a storm that devastates, fans faced a mega gnarly storm, that fiercely flooded the area. Everyone there was drenched from head to toe. The momentum of steady rain was unreal, but it didn’t seem to dampen the eager fans spirits, even with a one hour rain delay. If anything, it made the show more memorable.
With only twenty dates on Slayer’s 2017 Repentless tour, they invited Behemoth and Lamb of God to open the most metal must see summer tour.
Slayer surprised the crowd with an impressive ninety minute set. They must have been hell-bent on giving their fans an epic night to remember because they played tons of songs and picked the best of the best. They opened with “Repentless” and played songs that included “Hate Worldwide,” “War Ensemble,” and “Bloodline.” They performed “The Antichrist,” “Seasons in the Abyss,” “Hell Awaits,” and rounded out the night with some of their most lyrically gruesome 80s classics that made them famous, like “Raining Blood,” and “Chemical Warfare.” Slayer ended their set with one of their most notorious and infamous songs, the 1986 classic, “Angel of Death.”
Johnny Ruin of Collegeville has seen Slayer five times. He said, “With the large number of songs available to them to play they definitely do a good job of picking from new and old material. [Slayer are] Not one of those bands that you are gonna be disappointed with because they only played stuff off their newest album.”
With a vast discography and three decades of experience, singer and bassist Tom Araya, drummer, Paul Bostaph, and guitarists Kerry King and Gary Holt gave us a huge heaping of the dark, unapologetic in your face lyrics that Slayer are known for, along with some of the best guitar solos ever created. Their songs are so brilliantly composed and complicated, they will forever remain Gods of Metal!
