Episodic

Overflowing with vibration and sensation is Field Mouse’s latest record Episodic. An album completely overtaken with melodic and harmonizing guitar and drum beats, it’s the best complete record Field Mouse has comprised to date. Episodic is clean, refreshing, and mesmerizing with Rachel Browne’s complimenting vocals. The ten song record is not just a catchy radio piece, it is a piece of each band member’s passion that spills out from the seams of every track.
“Out of Context” is a sweet song dominated by pop guitar and rhythmic drum ‘heart-beats.’ There is a euphoric sensation about the song that takes over any anxious thoughts and releases them into the abyss. Field Mouse is so complex with what they create, every move and sound is put in place for a reason. Even towards the end of the track, the raw and screeching sounds add an element to the album that sets them apart from the crowd. The song drags out with roughness from the entire band and all you are left hearing is “it hurts.”
The comprised vocals of Rachel and Zoe Browne make “Do You Believe Me Now?” a short, but memorable song on the album. Their voices contrast just enough to differentiate between the two. Alongside the fast paced drums and repetitiveness of the chorus, this makes for a catchy and well put together song. “Beacon” comes in haunting and sweet. That track hums along with belting vocals and emotion, it encapsulates a lot of emotion in me, which makes it one of the favorites on the entire album. Within the lyrics, it is so easy to hear the struggle and release of letting go: “Today was different because I made it so.”
It would be easy to dissect each song from Episodic in a manner that talked about how amazing and put together the entire record was. If Field Mouse plays their cards right, this album is going to inspire and snap the heart strings. Each band member brings forth a talent that is shown through glimpses and notes in each song. From the banger track “The Mirror” to a more slow paced and hip rocker jam “Never Would Have Known,” Episodic captures a group of people and their life experiences into something that is going to ignite a fire in the indie rock music scene around the country.
