The music world evolves and changes, obviously. Sometimes like with every genre of music, what you’re hearing starts to sound just like the last band you heard. A stand out band deserves to be noticed and this is the certainly the case with Eyes of Munity.
This is a metal band from London, busy as could be. A quick search to find out more about the band before their That Mag interview lead me to realize Eyes of Munity does not have an official website. Like a lot of bands recently, they rely on social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter and Reverb Nation for fans to find where they are going next or what the band is up to that day. I asked, why did they think more bands are going this direction? Why not keep all information in one concise webpage rather than have fans search throughout various sites.
“We rely on the social networks like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Reverb Nation because that’s where all the people are. These
are the places that make it easy to share your media with a potentially huge amount of people,” says the band’s guitarist, Austin Chapman Dainty.
He goes on to say that “in turn, the people will share with their friends and so on. Social outlets like Reverb Nation provide an all-in-one solution for bands. They let people destitute your music to iTunes to providing statistics and band demographics. Bands are
doing this these days because it makes it easier for people to find out about you and your music. If you just have a website but nobody
knows about who you are, what good is that ?”
Hailing from Surrey, UK, Eyes of Munity could definitely use all these social media outlets to gain fame in the US. Their new album drops in March and as any band would agree, international fame is something to fight for. Courage will be released March 1st on social music websites like iTunes, Spotify and Soundcloud.
Courage is aptly named for may reasons. “The first reason was because of the huge task that lay ahead of us when we began the album. We had to write an hour’s worth of music from scratch, while keeping each track unique, as well as recording and producing the entire album ourselves,” explains Chapman Dainty. “Every single aspect of the album came from us with no outside help.
“Another reason we named it Courage was purely the time we spent on the album. Over a year- around 400 days, though every season just writing, arranging, recording, changing parts, arranging parts, re-recording parts day and night.”
The album includes every band member equally. Every member put their words and lyrics into parts of the songs, which is why the band says each track has a different element or style from the last track. Everyone in Eyes of Munity were able to contribute what they wanted to Courage.
Chapman Dainty says the response to the album so far has been amazing and better than he imagined. “Everyone has been so supportive about it. Also the fact that there is no clear favorite song among the people have heard it.”
The band’s motto and inspiration for the album title could be espressed through their song “Limitless”. It’s about trying to break from routine and to achieve what you think may not be possible. To feel like it’s too hard to make it anywhere in this world and feel suffocated, but to make sure you keep striving until you make what you set out for.”
Up next for the band, a new video. They’ll soon be filming again for another track off Courage. They continue to tour and would love to come to America. This is a hard working band with musicians who are willing to work for what they want. I have a feeling they’ll be here in the States soon.
