A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… Atomic City Comics was hosting the Star Wars Art Show closing party, and luckily, That Music Mag was here to tell you all about it.
Unless you have lived under a rock for the past couple of months, you are no stranger to the hype surrounding Star Wars’ new episodes. That’s right, Star Wars is back, and fans from across the globe are over the moon. Atomic City Comics picked the most talented of them all to showcase some of their galactic art pieces. The premiere comic book store in Philly is hosting a closing party on Sunday, January 31st to give you a last chance to see some of their favorite local artists showcasing their love for the franchise. Come support them, meet them, and make a good deal at the art print sale!
The Art Show features many artists, all displaying various styles, genres, and mediums, including line art, acrylic, digital imaging, ink, watercolor…The possibilities are endless, and this lovely bunch of illustrators and painters is taking advantage of all of them, each showcasing their own ways of the Force, from the polished, clean and colorful hand-drawn illustrations of Miguel Co, to the darker, painting-like pieces of Alex Eckman-Lawn, or the figurative concept arts of Jameela Wahlgren. A wonderful handpicked selection of local artists that the people at Atomic City Comics are proud of.
No deep research or knowledge is required to have a picture in mind of what a Star Wars art show might look like. Instantly, familiar figures of Yoda, R2D2, or Chewbacca come to one’s mind. Most of the younglings, and hell, most of the artists featured at the show as well, were not even born at the time of the first Star Wars episodes. Yet, the world seems to come together to celebrate the return of the beloved franchise in the dark rooms – a timeless love for the stellar franchise.
Supporting local artist is a cool thing to do as well, and a true Jedi would approve of it. To finish off the closing party the right way, Atomic City Comics is organizing a huge print sale. For a handful of wupiupi, one of these out-of-this-world prints can be yours – and because the lads at Atomic City Comics are some of the best in town, they are willing to make an exception for you humans, and accept American dollars as well. You get to encourage our Philly talents, and add a rad, celestial note to your otherwise boring apartment walls.
After such a cool event, you can bet Atomic City Comics will not stop there. Not only do they offer one of the largest selections of comics, graphic novels, manga, t-shirts, collectibles, games, back issues, clothes…they are also constantly hosting new signings, art shows, and diverse events, each one crazier than the other. Among them, a Deadpool Cosplay huge photo-shoot in the streets of Philadelphia, or a retro gaming night. Atomic City Comics is not just your typical boring bookstore. It is building a real community that you are all invited to join.
So what are you waiting for? Stop by at Atomic City Comics this Sunday, and may the force be with you.
