Many Moons

Martin Courtney is an up and coming guitarist and singer-songwriter with an album titled Many Moons, set to release today. His music is full of intricate melodies and interesting lyrics supported by smooth musical arrangements.
“Awake,” the opening track, sets up a relaxing vibe and builds expectations on the listener on how and where this is going. Once we hear the opening lines the music starts to grow into a smooth flow and it ended up leaving me with a feeling of eagerness for the next track on the album. Martin Courtney’s playing and singing has a soulful presence and what would be the “sweet spot” between the feeling of excitement and peace.
In “Before we Begin”, sections are repeated with interesting instrumentation and cyclical melodies. The strings in this particular track add to the repetitive qualities of the song creating depth that reaches other levels of expectations and emotions – especially at the end of the track when it just ends abruptly. This feeling is continually built along the entire album. “Northern Highway,” for instance, is a track with simple arrangements, catchy lyrics, and simple melodies, but the intensity of the music grows and has its own turns and it plays from a joyful place.
Many Moons reaches to the listener with its simplicity and at the same time with feelings and expectations that are delivered just to the extent of inviting us to other dimensions of sound and enjoyment.
