Gentle Warnings

The talented duo is originally from New York City. The sound that they try to portray is from another generation.
The first track of the album is called “One Too Far.” The song’s guitar intro lures the listeners into the rest of the album. When their voices are heard for the first time, it is a little challenging to understand the lyrics being sung. Just listen closely and focus. It’s different, but at the same time, it’s really interesting.
“Oh No” is the second track on the album. This song has a happier rhythm to it. The lyrics are easier to understand, but there is still a feeling of the words being masked. The duo’s voices work amazingly together, especially in this song.
The eighth track, “Hold the Line,” is another stand out song. It reflects the great harmonies between the two voices as these lyrics are sung: “Hold it right there, do you want to keep me on the line? Hold it right there, call the operator.”
It’s visible that Jack + Eliza wanted to spread a sense of mystery throughout the album—they wanted you to either really listen to the music or just imagine it in your own way. This is probably a very new sound when you first listen to it, but this album definitely showcases their talent and their capability to blend their unique voices.
This different style of music separates them from much of the other music being created today. Through Gentle Warnings, you can see that they are willing to take risks with their music and enjoy experimenting with past generations of music that greatly influence their own.
Overall: Bad-Ass
