My Love Is Cool

Founding band mates, Ellie Rowsell and Joff Oddie, took the band name, “Wolf Alice”, from the the storybooks of Alice in Wonderland and Little Red Riding Hood and combined them together.
Wolf Alice originally began as a folk pop band, but after three EP’s, switched over to a 90’s grunge genre, and their debut record, My Love Is Cool, is the epitome of a solid effort by an up and coming British band out out of London.
The second track, “Bros”, is a warming song about best friends. Rowsell’s soft, yet upbeat voice sings “Forget our mothers and our past lovers / Forget everyone / Oh, I’m so lucky / You are my best friend / There’s no one, there’s no one that knows me like you do.”
“Your Love’s Whore” is one of my absolute favorite tracks on the record. It is about a woman wanting a man to give her a chance about building a friendship and see where it goes from there. Wanting to be “his love’s whore.”
The first single off the band’s record, “Moaning Lisa Smile” is just fabulous. The song opens with soft guitars, then crescendos to loud guitars, then slows down. It sounds like one of those songs you would hear on teen drama similar to A Walk To Remember or Garden State.
Overall, I would definitely recommend to give Wolf Alice’s debut a thorough listen. The 90’s grunge rock band from London kicks ass.
