Another Eternity

Since hearing the track “Fineshrine” from the band’s 2012 debut record, Shrines, I became a quick fan of the eclectic, indie, electronic, pop duo. Though, I still cannot remember to this day how I actually discovered them. Regardless, the duo of Megan James and Corin Roddick are back with their stellar sophomore album, Another Eternity.
Another Eternity opens with the pulsating beats of “Heartsigh”. James’ soft and pure vocals compliment the electronic, dancy beats so well and you can just imagine being on the dance floor or just enjoying a Saturday evening with friends. It’s such a fun, exciting opening track with the heart-pounding beats.
The second track on the record is “Bodyache” and I thoroughly adore this song. I feel like this album is slightly more concentrated on upbeat, electronic dance pop music than Shrines was. “Bodyache” is an upbeat song, but ironically, with sad lyrics about lying awake, crying until your body aches.
The first single, “Push Pull”, is a more mellow electronic track about two people involved in a tumultuous situation. It’s ironic how the song seems so mellow, yet the lyrics are speaking about a situation that speak otherwise: “There was no light and I swear / I could see your raring fear / I heard the plains moaning back / I saw the thunder roll o’er black…”
“Repetition” is the fourth track on the album and really does well at combining the electronic beats and Purity Ring sound. And then there’s “Stranger Than Earth”; the opening of this track brings in some familiar sounds of the trap genre and digs deeper into the electronic dance music (EDM) genre.
Overall, James and Roddick have really created something special with this record and developed something even more exciting than Shrines. If this is what they’re capable of, I can’t wait see to wait the future holds for them.
