I look around the crowd and it’s immediately clear that I’m not the only audience member enchanted by Lianne La Havas. Not only does the singer have an incredible voice, but she also has a charming personality to match her talent. “No, you’re awesome”, La Havas says in response to an over zealous fan who is unable to contain his enthusiasm. I can’t blame the guy. I’m ready to shout praises for Lianne La Havas after she sings her first few notes into the microphone.
Last Friday, WXPN was able to once again provide fans with an exhilarating Free At Noon show, hosted at the World Café Live. Mercury Prize nominee Lianne La Havas was welcomed with opened arms as she took stage to share a few songs from her debut album, Is Your Love Big Enough?.
Lianne is delightful on stage. She projects a warmth when singing for fans, making the audience feel like they are watching an old friend perform in their living room. The 23-year-old is such a mature artist at a young age, with the ability to instantly capture the attention of a room. It’s only a matter of time before sing-a-longs ensue amongst the crowd during the show. Concertgoers, wishing to join the musician in song, spontaneously repeat the mesmerizing words of Lianne La Havas.
From upbeat, heart pumping anthems like “Forget”, to soulful ballads like “Lost & Found”, Lianne La Havas enchanted her listeners from start to finish of an 8 song set. This gifted soul singer certainly made a lasting impression during her first trip to Philadelphia. We’re hoping it won’t be her last.
