…And Star Power
Reviewed by: Rebecca Robinson
Foxygen’s latest album, … And Star Power, begins with a cacophony of jumbled sound bytes that eventually resolves itself into a group of songs that seem to be channeled from past eras.
The album begins with a song that could have been recorded in the 1960s or 1970s. A soft rock song with a distinct 1980s influence and an odd alternative version of a power ballad follow. …And Star Power is definitely an interesting collection of the various types of music that Foxygen is capable of playing. Despite the oddity, the instrumentation and clear vocals are polished and Foxygen obviously has the talent to pull off an album full of such radically diverse sounds.
…And Star Power gives the listener a full concert experience right on their couch. As with any concert, some songs on the album will be more popular than others, but with such a wide array of music genres, there is literally a song for everyone on …And Star Power.
