The TLA was “Loud Like Love” Wednesday night as fans gathered to see the outstanding band, Placebo, perform with enthusiasm and intensity. These guys have been around for quite some time now so the crowd was a mix of different ages. You had your ponytailed, rock veterans cozied up with signifacant others as well as the younger generation with torn up jeans.
The venue filled up rather quickly and people were huddled in the front of the stage from the beginning. I was impressed to see the devotion these guys had to the band. You could feel the temperature rise from all the body heat. The chatter was so loud it kept the room alive and somewhat drowned out the industrial/alt music playing during sound check.
Placebo came out with a contagious energy and fans were screaming as loud as possible as the band made their way on stage. There were bright green, blue and purple lights that stretched wall to wall. It was hard to see them at first, but once they started playing there was no mistaking who was up there.
The band opened up with “B3” off of the self-titled EP. “For What It’s Worth” was next and the band inspired the audience to clap along too perfectly. After, Placebo proclaimed their love for coming to Philly for shows and announced it was actually Steve Forrests’ first time in the United States. What a great experience we could share with the band.
They went on to play “Loud Like Love” followed by a few classics. Everyone seemed to be in awe and enjoying themselves throughout the entire show. Placebo’s sound was excellent and they really know how to fill a room with their music. Keep it loud, you know, so we love it.
