Weightless

Matt Andersen’s new album, Weightless, is a perfect title for this collection of soulful, spirit lifting tunes that sound like they were born straight from the Mississippi River. No way this guy is from Canada, right? Quite useful for a rainy day, the organ, gospel choirs and Andersen’s gravelly voice serve as faux sunshine for the soul- something everyone on the East Coast is desperately in need of right now.
“My Last Day” is a killer gospel throw down that will have your hands in the air and eyes straight to the sky before you know it. Andersen seems to know a lot about a rough, blue collar upbringing and has a way with words that allows you to live a day or two in his shoes. “The Fight” sounds so back country it could be straight out of an episode of True Detective. Paradoxically, although the subject matter seems to be dark in nature, you will feel like you just had a shot of Vitamin D when you’re done listening.
The only side effect of this terrific album the distinct possibility that it will inexplicably leave you craving crawfish, gator meat and straight whiskey for the rest of the day. Or, apparently, Canadian food.
