Saint Patrick’s Day is just around the corner, green beer and shamrocks fill the bars and people are getting ready to celebrate. What better way to do so than with Irish/Celtic music and pub crawls? Philadelphia has a bunch of wonderful ones to chose from, don’t miss out on enjoying them this season.
Black 47 and Barleyjuice- See these bands play together Thursday, March 13th at 7:00pm at World Cafe Live. Black 47, formed 25 years ago, is a New York City based group whose music is influenced by various genres. By catching them paired with one of Philly’s favorite Celtic rock band’s, Barleyjuice, you’ll have one of the best St. Paddy’s pre-game shows ever. Traditional Irish/Scottish music guaranteed to make you move your feet! Grab your tickets here.
John Byrne Band- This band is led by former Patrick’s Head front man John Byrne (who hails from Dublin). They’re based in Philly and have sold out many shows, filled up many bars, and opened for a lot of great Irish/Celtic acts- including Black 47, Enter the Haggis, Gaelic Storm, The Young Dubliners and more. With a kick-ass fiddler hailing from South Philly, these guys bring traditional music home to the city. The show is Friday March 14th at 7:00pm at World Cafe Life.
Weekend Kick-Off Bar Crawl- Start the holiday off with this pub crawl around Northern Liberties and Rittenhouse Square on March 14th at 5pm. Grab your passes here.
Jamison- Catch Philly’s high-energy Celtic rock band all week leading up to the holiday. They’ll be at Paddy Whack’s Paddy Bash on the 15th, in the parade on the 16th and at Finnigan’s Wake all day on Saint Patrick’s Day. Whew! Buy them a beer!
Blackthorn- Philadelphia clearly has plenty home grown Irish/Celtic bands to check out throughout the year. Catch these guys at the recently opened Ardmore Music Hall on Saint Patricks day at 7pm. If you haven’t been to this venue yet, now is the time and this is the band! Grab your tickets here.
Glengarry Bhoys- Our top pick and worth the drive outside of the city! Catch them March 15th at 8pm at the Sellersville Theater. Grab your tickets here (and check out the rest of the great Celtic bands there that week).
Philly’s Official St. Paddy’s Day Bar Crawl- Don’t miss out on the biggest of them all – from Center Center, to Northern Liberties and Rittenhouse Square this is the one to be at on Saturday March 15th. Grab your passes here.
Saint Patrick’s Day Crawl- If you’re off on Tuesday (or just really love the holiday) don’t just do the concerts on Monday, hit this pub crawl as well. Show your true Irish spirit by going balls to the wall on the actual St. Paddy’s Day! Grab your passes here before you change your mind and start thinking responsibly!
