Philadelphia natives Bleeding Rainbow brought in a packed audience last night at the Golden Tea House. The four piece band, coming fresh off their release of their newest album, Interrupt, headlined the show in celebration alongside bands Roomrunner and Multicult.
Baltimore based band Multicult kicked the night off on a noisy note, diving guitars and cymbals first into their garage based jams. With the clash of frontman Nick Skrobitz;s vocals going rough against the whine of their amps, the band had the crowd nodding their heads to their songs, with “Stop Calling” being a favorite.
Coming hot off after Multicult’s set was Roomrunner, who threw in their own fuzzed out music in the mix. If anyone wasn’t headbanging before, they were once Roomrunner came on. The noise rock group, fronted by Denny Bowen, plowed their way through songs off the band’s latest EP, Ideal Cities, filling the room with distortion and lyrical mayhem.
Finally, Bleeding Rainbow was up. Singer/bassist Sarah Everton stepped up, and after a quick thank you and explanation of their album release, the band wasted no time getting into the opening chords of “White Noise.” With no barricade separating them from the packed crowd, space became limited, but the band didn’t seem to mind. They shredded and moved their way through their songs. “So you Know” seemed to be the most popular hit of the night, and by the end, lesser known tracks were thrown in such as “Cut Up” and “Out of Line.”
Unlike shows at larger venues, Bleeding Rainbow’s event at the Golden Tea House showed a lesser known part of Philly’s music environment. There were no tickets, no stage, no long lines, and certainly no screaming groupies. It was just a few bands, a living room, and a crowd full of people who knew how to appreciate their local scene.
