Live At the Ryman
Review by: Sebastian Mackay
Charming. Beautiful. Intimate. Live At The Ryman is stripped back with guitars and a piano and harmonies that’ll make your skin prick. The performance was record with the Direct Stream Digital format, meaning a high definition recording picks up all the nuances and delicacies of the live show. This performance is by no means “small” in that it feels empty or as though it’s a lacking. It’s filled with soul and feeling that generates such an atmosphere that is unforgettable and while live, perfectly intimate.
This album is flawless. Each song a testament to Band Of Horses’ songwriting, ability and lyricism. “The Funeral” is an impassioned and heartfelt track while “No One’s Gonna Love You” is tender and understanding. The dynamics of the songs and the album as a whole create a listening experience as much as a cohesive album of brilliant tracks.
Closing track “Neighbor” is musical perfection. Balanced with harmonies, piano and a cappella, it finishes the album emotively and with such skill that it resounds for a long time afterwards.
Other than experiencing this album, there is nothing that can do it justice.
