Blue Record

Unknown Mortal Orchesta’s Blue Record is the band’s first album into the world of acoustic music. Three tracks are acoustic versions of prior releases and the final two are acoustic covers from other bands.
When a pop, hip/hop band takes away the music, everything slows down. Songs that were upbeat suddenly become slow. Moods and lyrics change. “Swim and Sleep (Like a Shark)” was a great rendition and powerful in its acoustic form. However after that, “Faded in the Morning” and “So Good a Being in Trouble” sound more like a country folk song with a twang and slow drawl.
The two covers were interesting. “Swing Lo Magellan” originally by Dirty Projectors worked but wasn’t stand out. “Puttin’ It Down”, originally by Beck was eerie and soulful and evoked strong emotional responses making it perhaps the best track on the album.
