The Weather Station, Bad Braids and the two piece of Mary Lattimore and Jeff Zeigler regaled the crowd at Johnny Brenda’s with their musical stylings on Thursday night.
Lattimore and Zeigler
All three bands had disparate styles and gave the crowd a smorgasbord of sounds to satisfy all but the most anal of palates. The harp and keyboard combination of stalwarts of the Philadelphia music scene Mary Lattimore and Jeff Zeigler gently kissed the ears and lulled listeners into rapt attention. Their set was short and sweet, play songs from their debut album together Slant of Light. The novelty of a harp outside of more classical settings was an experience in its own right.
Bad Braids
Bad Braids had the darkest and most alternative sound of the night. The five piece was a stark contrast from the seasonal sounds Mary Lattimore and Jeff Zeigler, and the folk rhythms of The Weather Station. What both Bad Braids and the Weather Station had in common was strong female vocals. Bad Braids opted for a more distorted and emotive sound that invited listeners to feel the vocals. The Weather Station’s sound was clear and solid with tracks from their latest record Loyalty getting as much love as favorites from earlier in their discography.

All three acts together put on a show host to a collection of styles that music lovers don’t often get to see in one place. The harp alone was worth the price of admission.
