“If God didn’t want us to eat pigs, he wouldn’t have made them out of bacon.”
The second annual Bacon Fest (rescheduled from last Friday) is being held on August 8th at the Oval, starting at 5pm. This is a time to celebrate both the prolific and exceptional work of a great actor, as well as yummy, yummy bacon.
The Awesomefest bacon happens to be six degrees of delicious. The six degrees being regular, maple, turkey, chicken, beef and Kevin. The first types are being supplied by Godshall’s Quality Meats who will be generously handing out free samples. The last kind will be provided through an outdoor showing of Apollo 13 at 8:30pm on a screen roughly the size of my house. Yes, Footloose would have been a better choice, but they showed that one last year. Considering the sheer number of movies he’s been in, the Bacon Fest can go a very long time without the need to repeat a Kevin Bacon film from one year to the next.
According to The Awesomefest, the movie will coincide with a bacon launch into outer space. I have no idea how that is supposed to work, but the Franklin Institute is involved, and they are some of the smartest people on the planet, so who knows? I don’t think they will actually launch it into space and that may not be a bad thing. On the one hand, I’m sure the people in the International Space Station would love some bacon, but I’m not sure that is a great place to watch a movie about astronauts who almost die from a mechanical malfunction. Also more bacon in outer space means less for us.
Before the movie gets underway, there will be food trucks, as well as bacon related recipes, contests and games. At 6pm, chef Jack McDavid will be giving a cooking demonstration. Presumably the presentation will consist of more than him just telling us to put bacon on everything. Of course, I have been given worse advice…
The Oval is at the intersection of Benjamin Franklin Parkway & 24th Street (Directly in front of The Art Museum stairs). The Bacon Fest will last from 5pm-11pm.
